No more silver fillings - dentist Paphos, Cyprus

In our clinic we do not place silver (amalgam/mercury) fillings in our patients' mouths because of the following reasons:

 1. American and European dental associations do not want the doctor, or staff, to touch freshly mixed amalgam fillings.

2. The American and European dental asssociations do not want amalgam fillings to go into the sewer or in the water system.

3. American and European dental associations want the scrap, or leftover, amalgam fillings to be placed in special closed containers, so that the mercury vapor does not escape into the air.

4. According to the law of most first world countries, mercury contaminated items have to be disposed of in sealed bags, beyond regular medical waste.

5. Mercury is no longer placed in certain batteries because it pollutes the environment.

6. Amalgam fillings don't look good when a patient smiles, they stain the tooth black and their longevity is not that much more than tooth coloured restorations.

After many years in dental practise and after researching the above information, we have decided that it is not a good idea to place amalgams in peoples' mouths.

What do you think?
